IMTC 2020 afgelast

Het zag er lange tijd naar uit dat de International Media Top Convention op maandag 16 maart in De Hallen Studios in Amsterdam gewoon doorgang kon vinden, maar de actualiteit heeft de organisatie helaas gedwongen tot afgelasting van dit evenement. De recente ontwikkelingen rond het coronavirus laten ons geen andere keus. We betreuren deze beslissing uiteraard ten zeerste, ook al omdat de deelnemers en het sprekersgedeelte van hoog niveau waren. Gezien de onzekere situatie kunnen we op dit moment nog niet zeggen of de IMTC dit jaar op een later tijdstip wel plaats zal vinden. Video content is in huge demand as streamers substantially invest in scripted programming and broadcasters react by increasing their investment in local programming.
One would imagine that content producers are experiencing the best times ever. Hence the IMTC this year focusses on content providers: how do they operate their businesses in such an exploding market?
Big individual players are coming to Amsterdam to explain their business strategies.

First of all, Lina Brouneus, Director Co-Productions & Acquisitions at Netflix. The streaming platform opened a market for original content from the Netherlands with last year’s launch of the Dutch produced tv series Ares (2019), and with Undercover returning for a second and a third season. Netflix is continuously also increasing their investment into films through partnerships like Dutch Film Works as well as Global Pre-Buys like The Forgotten Battle and My Best Friend Anne Frank. Lina Brouneus will talk about Netflix content and what she is looking for. She will also talk about partnering with producers and broadcasters at Netflix.

Marco Bassetti, CEO of Banijay. He will run the largest international content production company in the course of this year once the acquisition of EndemolShine has been finalized.
The new company will become a huge player with a turnover of more than € 3 billion and operations all across the globe. How does he see the future for this large conglomerate?

Markus Schäfer is CEO of All3 Media in Germany and oversees All3’s operations (IDTV) in the Netherlands. All3 was in the race for the acquisition of EndemolShine too and has a strong reputation as a Group that does well with the streamers.
He will comment on All3’s strategy and explain how international streamers fundamentally change the scripted content production landscape in Germany.

Christophe Thoral, CEO of Lagardère Studios, will present his vision of an international group that focusses entirely on Europe. Christophe, similarly to Markus, oversees a Dutch production company (Skyhigh TV).
He will comment on French cultural policy as well as international streamers like Netflix have been forced to invest heavily in French content. A policy that might well be adopted in the Netherlands as well.
